A newly created iwi roopu NAVA – Ngāti Awa Volunteers Army in collaboration with BOP Regional Council and the Whakatāne District Council will work together to form a pool of volunteers ready for the clean-up as it progresses in the coming days.

We welcome your interest to volunteer for the clean-up of flood-affected Edgecumbe - Patutatahi township and flood victims. Please check the following and if this is you, then please complete and submit your details.

  • We need fit and healthy people (over the age of 16 years old)
  • You need to be able to complete a 4-hour clean-up shift (unfortunately we do not have enough equipment to be able to split the shift to any less than 4 hours)
  • You need to have your own rubber boots (all other protective clothing and equipment will be supplied)
  • You need to be able to deal with possible messy, smelly soil and waste.

We are calling those who want to

  • awhi at the marae eg food preparation to keep our kaimahi (volunteers) energised (Manaaki Tangata)
  • clean and clear our whenua and whare (Manaaki Whenua)
  • be required for lighter duties (Mahi mama).

If you are not physically fit or cannot commit to 4 hours, but still wish to assist please register via the call centre on 0800 BOP FLOOD (0800 267 356).
If you have any difficulties completing this form or have any questions, please phone our call centre on 0800 BOP FLOOD (0800 267 356).

Thank you for your interest. The NAVA focus has shifted from response to recovery and we have enough people. You can check the volunteer hub website for updates.
